ASTON OTONITY – Finding My Angel built on a foundation of sincere childhood love. Seeing how Morgan has faithfully kept their toy ring for ten years, and how Woo-jin has learned to love the “muscular guy” version of Morgan—rather than the “angelic girl” of the past—brings a warm and wholesome feeling to readers. Below is a synopsis and a link to the Finding My Angel Full Chapter English Translation.
Korean comics first emerged under Japanese influence during the colonial period. However, after independence, Korea adopted the left-to-right reading direction, in line with the Hangeul writing system.
This choice was not merely technical but part of an effort to strengthen Korean identity. The popularity of manhwa skyrocketed in the mid-2010s, alongside the development of digital platforms and through webtoons.
The manhwa industry, especially the webtoon sector, has strict regulations regarding physical violence. That is why we often see knives or sharp weapons with blurred parts or replaced by black shapes, to ensure that the content remains safe for younger readers.
Very popular themes in Korea include reincarnation, beauty, and social status—a reflection of competitive Korean society.
The main difference between novels and manhwa lies in their format: novels are text-based (written) and rely on the reader’s imagination, while manhwa are full-color South Korean comic books. Manhwa typically feature more visually striking action scenes, better-developed characters, and more thrilling endings than their novel counterparts.
Currently, manhwa is very popular in its digital, full-color, vertically-scrolled format (webtoon), read on cell phones or computers.
Spoiler Finding My Angel
The story begins with a flashback to childhood in a small town in the United States. Kim Woo-jin is captivated by his new neighbor, a blonde-haired child with a face as beautiful as an angel’s. Because of the child’s feminine appearance and gender-neutral name, Woo-jin assumes the child is a girl. Before they parted ways for some reason, young Woo-jin gave her a toy ring and promised to marry this “angel” in the future.
Ten years pass, and Woo-jin grows into a Korean-American young man of average height. Suddenly, his first love returns to town. Woo-jin, who had been eagerly anticipating a beautiful girl, is instead deeply shocked when he sees Morgan Riley. Morgan has grown into a very tall Caucasian man with broad shoulders and a muscular, well-built physique from regular exercise.
Although his appearance has drastically changed into that of a muscular man, Morgan still harbors the same feelings for Woo-jin. He even still keeps the toy ring from their childhood. On the other hand, Woo-jin is experiencing an identity crisis and inner turmoil.
The plot begins to delve into a unique romantic conflict. Woo-jin is slowly won over by Morgan’s sincerity and adorable nature. However, due to their stark physical differences, those around them often misunderstand their relationship. People assume that the muscular Morgan is the dominant partner (top), when in fact, in their romantic relationship, Woo-jin acts as the protector and the dominant partner (top), while the muscular Morgan is the submissive partner (bottom).
