Update on the Case of Ex-NewJeans Danielle
On September 10, the Seoul Central District Court held the fifth hearing in the damages lawsuit filed by ADOR against Danielle (a former member of NewJeans), her mother, and Min Hee-jin (former CEO of ADOR).
The two parties clashed over the valuation process and the scope of documents to be disclosed. At the heart of the dispute is the method for calculating the estimated revenue NewJeans could have generated had the group continued its activities normally. The group's potential future activities and ADOR's plans for their comeback also emerged as new points of contention.
The hearing initially focused on the procedures for making valuation documents available for review. Danielle's legal team argued, "The defendants must also be able to examine the documents ADOR submits to the valuation expert. Accurate verification is necessary."
ADOR emphasized that these documents contained trade secrets. The agency expressed concern that disclosing detailed information to the opposing party could lead to the exposure of strategic business information.
Counsel for Danielle countered, "If the documents are not submitted to the court, it will be difficult for us to properly exercise our right to challenge the allegations." They added that, to address concerns regarding a potential leak of trade secrets, they were willing to sign an agreement pledging not to use the documents for any purpose other than the lawsuit.

Danielle Requests NewJeans Activity Plans
The issue of NewJeans' future activity plans was also raised. Danielle's legal team argued that if ADOR were claiming damages, it was necessary to determine whether the agency would actually have been capable of managing the group's activities had the exclusive contracts remained in effect.
Danielle's side notably pointed out that no specific activity plan had been made public, even after the members expressed their intention to resume activities. They asked the court to order ADOR to produce documents regarding the group's future activities.
ADOR responded: "NewJeans' future activity plans constitute information typically shared as part of standard promotional procedures. They are not items that need to be disclosed in advance to the opposing party during legal proceedings."
The agency also highlighted that the schedule for NewJeans' comeback had been delayed due to Danielle's absence. ADOR maintained that it was not preparing for the members' return without having concrete plans in place.
The court noted that if ADOR were indeed preparing for NewJeans' activities, the associated expenses—including personnel costs—should be reflected in its financial records. The court decided to first review the materials already available before determining whether the production of additional documents was necessary.
