Yuu Hayashi Reveals Mikey’s Dangerous Dark Side, Set to Appear in the New Season of Tokyo Revengers

--

ASTON OTN - The voice actors for Tokyo Revengers have revealed how years of portraying the series' main characters have transformed their understanding of Takemichi, Mikey, and Draken.

In an interview following the series' appearance at Anime Expo 2026, Yūki Shin, Yuu Hayashi, and Masaya Fukunishi discussed the personalities behind these three central characters and what audiences can expect from the anime's latest story arc.

This interview coincides with the television premiere of the Tokyo Revengers: War of the Three Titans arc in October 2026. The three actors had previously appeared together at Anime Expo 2026 for a special cast panel and recap event.

The official Anime Expo schedule confirmed Shin, Hayashi, and Fukunishi as featured guests for the panel, which focused on the new arc and behind-the-scenes experiences. One of the most notable comments came from Hayashi, who hinted at a much darker version of Mikey as the story progresses.

Yuu Hayashi Hints at a Darker Mikey

Hayashi explained that one of the biggest surprises in voicing Mikey was discovering just how far the character's dark side could evolve.

“At first, he was a very reliable leader,”

Hayashi said during the interview.

“But if you look at the trailer for the upcoming season, we think you’ll see a Mikey who is truly shocking and much darker.”

According to Hayashi, Mikey's previous dark side was accompanied by uncertainty and doubt. However, this new version of the character could be far more dangerous because he may no longer question that side of himself.

Hayashi also explained that Mikey's contrasting personality traits were not something he tried to balance deliberately. Instead, the actor approached each facet with full intensity—whether Mikey was being childish, charismatic, or menacing.

The voice actor believes that Mikey is fundamentally kind-hearted, despite his increasingly dangerous behavior. It is this contradiction that makes the character challenging to portray and helps explain why audiences remain captivated by him.

The new War of the Three Titans Arc follows the escalating conflict between major factions following the dissolution of the Tokyo Manji Gang. The official production announcement confirmed that the arc began airing in October 2026 and introduced characters connected to the Three Titans conflict.

Yūki Shin Says Takemichi’s Biggest Growth Is Psychological

Shin describes Takemichi’s development differently. Rather than becoming significantly stronger physically, Takemichi gradually develops greater psychological resilience.

“As the story progresses, he does become stronger, but it isn’t physical strength,”

Shin explains.

“I was surprised to see just how strong he is psychologically.”

The actor believes that Takemichi’s vulnerability is one of the reasons audiences connect with him. Unlike characters who earn trust through extraordinary abilities, Takemichi repeatedly proves himself by refusing to give up.

Shin notes that Takemichi has spent most of his life running away from difficult situations, making his decision to face them head-on deeply meaningful. That persistence allows other characters—and the audience—to see themselves in him.

The official Tokyo Revengers cast list credits Shin as Takemichi, Hayashi as Mikey, and Fukunishi as Draken.
