The Barbershop Series Premieres on Prime Video in February 2027—The Most Anticipated Comedy!

ASTON OTN - Prime Video is bringing the Barbershop franchise back to the screen with a new comedy series premiering in 2027. Amazon MGM Studios has announced that Barbershop will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on February 10, 2027, with all eight episodes released at once across more than 240 countries and territories.

The upcoming series draws inspiration from the popular Barbershop film franchise while introducing a new chapter centered on Travis “Trav” Walker, played by Jermaine Fowler. Trav returns to Chicago hoping to honor his grandfather's legacy by taking over the iconic Calvin’s Barbershop.

However, the neighborhood and the business have changed since his grandfather's time. As Trav strives to establish himself among a new generation of barbers and reconnect with the shop’s loyal clientele, Calvin’s continues to serve as a gathering place where conversation, debate, humor, and community come together.

Barbershop Series Brings a New Generation to Calvin’s

The new Barbershop series retains the core concept that made the film franchise famous while shifting the focus to a different protagonist. Trav must navigate the challenges of taking over a legendary local business while dealing with the diverse personalities that make Calvin’s more than just a place for a haircut.

The official description notes that the shop is known for "sharp haircuts, straight-talking opinions," and a community that always has something to say.

This setting allows the series to blend workplace comedy with stories centered on relationships, neighborhood culture, and the evolving identity of Chicago. The main cast includes Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., EJ Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye, and Langston Kerman, alongside Fowler.

The series will also feature several guest appearances, including Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker, and Belmont Cameli.

The creative team blends ties to the original Barbershop franchise with established comedic talent. Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original film, serves as a writer, co-showrunner, and executive producer on the new series.

Max Searle also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers include Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein, Tiffany Brown, Bradley Gardner, Cameron Burnett, Autumn Bailey-Ford, George L. Tillman, Robert Teitel, Jermaine Fowler, and Oz Rodriguez, with Rodriguez also directing.
