Resident Evil is a survival horror game franchise and series developed by Capcom that was first released in 1996. Resident Evil (2026) will be released in theaters on September 18, 2026, as the second reboot of this popular horror franchise.
Could the game's characters face a threat in the 2026 Resident Evil movie?
1. The Horror of the Infected
The infected in the movie *Resident Evil* (2026) don’t even feel like mere zombies. Some aspects of them are reminiscent of Las Plagas. For example, there are infected whose heads split open to reveal tentacle-like structures that they then use to attack their prey.
And most terrifying of all, some infected can even merge with the bodies of other infected to form repulsive amalgam creatures. They’re also incredibly resilient.
Destroying their heads doesn't necessarily solve the problem. Two infected that have already fallen can still merge and start moving again.
In other words, a simple mindset like “shoot the head = zombie dead” doesn’t always apply here. For characters who are used to facing zombies, B.O.W.s, and various types of parasites, this remains a rather troublesome threat because the ruleset is different.
2. Resident Evil 2 dan 3
Since the 2026 movie is also set in Raccoon City, imagine if the Resident Evil 2 versions of Leon and Claire had to face those infected. This isn’t Leon as an experienced government agent. This is Leon as a rookie who was even late for work on his first day.
Claire is also still a college student who came to Raccoon City to look for her older sister. They may have the basic skills to survive, but they don’t have decades of experience dealing with B.O.W.s.
Now imagine them encountering the creatures from the movie *Infected* (2026). Even in their basic form, these creatures are already capable of running aggressively after them.
Have they been taken down? They might not be dead—they could get back up. What happens when they encounter other infected? They could join forces to become something even more terrifying.

In a situation like that, Leon and Claire’s strategy might not be to just go around killing everyone. Instead, they might have to dodge a lot and choose when to fight.
The Resident Evil 3 version of Jill Valentine certainly has far more combat experience, having faced B.O.W.s before.
But even Jill might still face the same problem: she knows how to fight monsters, but she doesn’t necessarily know the rules of this particular monster. And in survival horror, that kind of ignorance can be a huge problem.
3. Don’t Get Bitten
There’s one horrifying detail in the movie when Bryan finds the victim in a tunnel. The victim’s leg had already been bitten. That part of the leg had turned into a row of disgusting tentacles moving beyond the control of the body’s owner.

This makes a bite a far more serious threat than just: “Oh no, what if I turn into a zombie?”
If characters like Leon, Claire, Jill, or Chris get bitten, the situation becomes much more complicated—especially if there’s no antidote yet. And that’s exactly what makes the battle against the infected in the movie so compelling.
The characters in Resident Evil are certainly very experienced when it comes to facing monsters. But they still have to deal with the most basic rule of survival horror: don’t get bitten at all.
After all, facing ordinary zombies is probably just part of the routine for Leon or Jill.
